West Cork Business & Tourism Awards 2018

The Gala Awards dinner for the inaugural West Cork Business & Tourism Awards took place Friday 30th November 2018 at the Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa Hotel.

Rowa Pharmaceuticals in Bantry took top honours, being named Overall West Cork Business of the Year. Before a capacity crowd of 240 guests, Michael Lyons, Financial Controller, said they were extremely proud to have been in business for 60 years and for manufacturing and exporting from a rural area to 75 countries.

Colette Twomey, CEO of Clonakilty Food Company, received a standing ovation as she was presented with the County Mayor's Award for Outstanding West Cork Business Ambassador. County Mayor Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy described her as 'an inspiration to entrepreneurs everywhere'. The Award, he said, recognises someone who epitomises the strong West Cork reputation; our intensity; has respect for tradition and a pursuit of progress. 'Our recipient ticks all these and far more', he said.

The Southern Star received 204 entries for the Awards from 128 different business organisations from which a shortlist of finalists was chosen. These 31 finalists attended a 'Pitch Night' at AIB in Bandon back in early November, where they had the opportunity to sell themselves and their businesses to the judges face to face, via a 3-minute pitch. From this, the 10 category winners were chosen and announced at Inchydoney. The winners are
