Heartbreak for Kilmeen in county junior B football final

Kilmeen's Dylan Coffey is tackled by Tom Carroll, Castlelyons, during the county final.

KILMEEN suffered heartbreak as Castlelyons mounted a sensational late revival to capture the junior B county football final (1-6 to 0-7) following their clash in Páirc Uí Rinn last Sunday afternoon.

Kilmeen held a narrow two-point lead as the game approached the end of regulation time. Castlelyons, however, staged a dramatic finale as they struck 1-1 without reply in injury time, which propelled them to county final glory.

This heartbreaking defeat marks the second county final defeat for Kilmeen in three seasons.

The inclement weather ensured scores were at a premium throughout. Kilmeen enjoyed a slender one-point interval lead (0-4 to 0-3).

Kilmeen held their lead throughout the second half until Castlelyon’s late dramatic revival sealed an unforgettable triumph.

There will be a comprehensive report with post-match reaction from this final in this week’s Southern Star edition.
