Hands Up who wants to visit the Cork Puppetry Festival

THE inaugural Cork Puppetry Festival starts on Wednesday 20th August with a selection of educational workshops in puppet making, manipulation and carnival arts.

Festival highlights will include an adults-only “puppetry slam” cabaret in The Crane Lane Theatre on Saturday 23rd from 9pm, and a family fun day in Fitzgerald’s Park on the 24th to finish off the four-day event.

Festival Director Cliff Dolliver was eager to thank the many venues and volunteers making this small independent festival possible. He was speaking on Saturday while puppeteers in giant puppet costumes visited locations around the city to promote the festival.

'It’s really fantastic to have support from Cork’s theatre venues,' Dolliver said. 'We’re getting a fantastic response and a lot of people have signed up to help out as volunteers. This bodes really well for the future, because we think that Cork is the ideal place to be home to an annual puppetry festival – it’s a really friendly city with a great history of supporting the arts. We’re delighted with the response so far and can’t wait for the festival!'
