Christina Desmond will now fight for a medal in her next fight at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships

Cill na Martra welterweight Christina Desmond will fight for a medal at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude Siberia following a dominant win in her last 16 bout with Canadian boxer Myriam Da Silva.

Desmond won via a unanimous decision to progress to the next stage, winning on all five of the judges scorecards.

The first round was closest of the three with Da Silva marching her down on several occassions leading to a number of scrappy exchanges but the cleaner work was consistenly coming from the Cork woman.

Round two was much clearer with Desmond landing two eyecatching counter right hooks as her opponent looked to land big shots.

Da Silva was totally outclassed in round three as Desmond eased through to the quarter final where she will look to gaurantee herself at least a bronze medal.

Desmond was handed a tough first round draw against England's Sandy Ryan, a Commonwealth Games Gold medallist, but she showed plenty of ability to progress to the Last 16 and she carried that form into her latest fight.
