DOHENYS ladies have powered through to the county junior B football final.
The Carbery side was too strong for Watergrasshill in their clash in Dunmanway on Sunday and they will now play Midleton in the county final on October 12th.
The first half saw both teams struggle to gain the upper-hand and scores were hard to come by. Dohenys led from the start and opened the scoring with a Michelle Love point in the first minute and the same player gave Dohenys a comfortable lead with a superbly struck goal in the 12th minute.
While Dohenys were guilty of a few wides, Watergrasshill upped their game in the closing stages of the second half to close to within one point at the break, 1-3 to 0-5.
Dohenys looked much more comfortable on the ball in the second half, and with Cork senior Melissa Duggan surging through the opposition’s defence and causing havoc, Dohenys weren't long putting more scores on the board.
Noelle O’Mahony slotted over some lovely points and Catriona Moloney, who had an usually quiet first half, clocked up her first point from play in the 49th minute, followed by a classy goal less than 60 seconds later. This was a vital goal as it provided Dohenys with a comfortable lead heading into the last ten minutes. A penalty awarded to Watergrasshill in the last few minutes had little impact on the game as Dohenys were clear victors at that stage.
There was one negative for Tony White’s team when Doheny defender Aprille Duggan suffered a broken collar-bone so she will miss the upcoming county final.

Dohenys: Nora McCarthy; Aine Crowley, Claire Hurley, Donna Hayes; Caroline O’Mahony, Melissa Duggan, Aprille Duggan, Ruth Collins, Shauna Healy, Noelle O’Mahony (0-4), Aileen Murphy, Fiona Crowley, Catriona Moloney (1-3, 2f), Michelle Love (1-3), Mairead Crowley.
Subs: Martina Collins for Aprille Duggan (injured), Michelle Murphy (0-1) for Mairead Crowley, Trish Murray for Donna Hayes.
