THE Rosscarbery club hosted their first-ever South West Championship regatta in style, launching from Union Hall pier.

This was the rescheduled Glandore Harbour regatta, cancelled two weeks earlier due to adverse weather conditions.

As well as being exemplary hosts for this the third of South West Rowing’s five championship regattas, the Rosscarbery club also dominated the underage categories on the day. They claimed four of the eight gold medals on offer, winning the U14, U16 and U18 ladies’ races as well as the U14 boys.

In the adult categories, Kilmacsimon were the top club. At this year’s first championship regatta in Blind Strand, their senior ladies won. In the second regatta, their senior men joined the ladies to make it an outstanding senior double. Now in this, the third regatta, their senior mixed crew won as well to make it a fantastic hat-trick of senior wins, a rare achievement for any club.

For Galleyflash, its U12 crew is the shining light, winning gold for the second regatta in a row. The club’s veteran ladies also moved up the rankings finishing second. For Myross, their veteran men made it three wins out of three, while the club came second in the senior men and mixed races and in the U12 and U16 girl categories.

Courtmacsherry’s top crew was their intermediate men who won while it was second place for their pre-vet men, masters ladies and U14 girls. Castletownbere’s rising stars are their U12 girls. Having come third in Blind Strand, they moved up to silver in the second regatta and now this Sunday, they won gold.

Ring’s top results were silver medal finishes in the U16, U18 and intermediate men’s races. For Kilmacabea, it’s the ladies’ division that is going very well, winning both the intermediate and veteran categories and coming second in pre-veteran.

The Club of the Day Award went to Kilmacsimon who won nine races in total, the three senior races, both pre-veteran races, both masters races, U16 and U18 men.
