Kilmacsimon's senior women pulled off a great win over national champions Galley Flash and reigning South West champions Castletownbere to win round one of the South West rowing championships.

KILMACSIMON’S senior women pulled off a great win over national champions Galley Flash and reigning South West champions Castletownbere to win round one of the South West rowing championships held at Blind Strand, Courtmacsherry.  

This victory crowned what was a magnificent day for the club, in difficult weather conditions. The club also won gold in the U12 boys’ as well as in the masters’ men and masters’ women’s categories, as they earned the club of the day award.

The Myross club also delivered exceptional results. It’s senior men’s crew and senior mixed crews both held off Kilmacsimon opposition to win in intriguing contests. The club’s youth wing had success with victories in U12 and U14 girls, and it also won the veteran and pre-veteran men’s races.

Ring’s men crews had a good regatta, winning the U16, U18 and intermediate races while the club came in second in U16 ladies, veteran ladies and in U14 boys. In Kilmacabea, it’s the ladies’ division that is going very well as it won a-hat-trick of races in intermediate, pre-veteran and veteran.  

Rosscarbery ladies won the U16 and U18 races and came second in U12 while the club made a welcome return to adult rowing, taking third in the veteran men’s race.

Host club Courtmacsherry’s top result was its U14 boys taking gold, while both of its U12 crews did well, the boys taking silver and the girls taking bronze. The club also came second in the intermediate men and master ladies’ races.

Galleyflash won silver in U16 men and U18 ladies as well as in the senior ladies’ race. Castletownbere’s U14 ladies took silver while in the adults, its masters men finished second and its senior ladies crew came third.

This Sunday, all clubs head to Glandore for round two of the Celtic Ross sponsored championships.
