New Ballinascarthy camogie book on sale locally

THE new Ballinascarthy Camogie Club book, Give A Girl A Hurley, was launched at a packed Ballinascarthy hall on bank holiday Monday night.

Former player Helen (Walsh) McManamon launched the book with great aplomb as she cut the ribbon after a heart-warming speech. She played camogie with the club in the mid 1980s and then went on to play with Eire Óg as there was no adult team in Bal. 

A former captain of an All-Ireland winning Cork junior team in 1999, she now trains underage camogie teams in Bal. Her daughters, Aoife and Ciara, play for Ballinascarthy Camogie Club.

Three cakes were baked for the launch by Betty Hennessy and her sister Kathleen. The 1969 cake was cut by Mary (Meade) Lehane and Patrick Hennessy, the 2019 cake was cut by Martina O’Brien who was just back from Dublin after captioning the Cork senior ladies’ footballers to national league success, and the book cake was cut by Marion Campbell and club secretary Kate Crowley.  

The book is now for sale in The Village Store, Ballinascarthy.
