DAMIEN Gore will become the first Kilmacabea clubman to line out with the Cork senior footballers this Sunday.

The Cork U20 forward will make his first start for the county seniors when an experimental line-up plays Limerick in a McGrath Cup semi-final in Rathkeale, at 2pm.

Gore has been named at corner forward in a full-forward line that also includes Castlehaven’s Brian Hurley and Bantry Blues’ Ruairi Deane.

The West Cork interest doesn’t end there as the White brothers from Clonakilty, Mark and Sean, both start, while Carbery Rangers midfielder James Fitzpatrick, Bandon’s Peter Murphy, Clonakilty’s Liam O’Donovan who captained the Cork U20s last season and Castlehaven’s Mark Collins are all on the bench.

Eire Óg duo Chris Kelly and Ronan O’Toole are also amongst the subs, as are Tadhg Corkery (Cill na Martra), Peter Kelleher (Kimichael) and Chris Óg Jones (Iveleary).

Cork won the McGrath Cup last year and boss Ronan McCarthy will be hoping for a positive start to the year as he looks to improve from last year’s underwhelming championship that included heavy defeats to both Kerry and Tyrone.

If Cork beat Limerick on Sunday, then they will play either Clare or Waterford in the McGrath Cup final.

Meanwhile, Clonakilty’s David Lowney started at corner back for the Cork senior hurlers in their 1-20 to 0-21 Munster Hurling League defeat against Clare in Ennis last Saturday.

Cork team v Limerick: Mark White (Clonakilty); Kevin O’Donovan (Nemo Rangers), James Loughrey (Mallow), Conor Dennehy (St Finbarr’s); Kevin Crowley (Millstreet), Kevin Flahive (Douglas), Paul Walsh (Kanturk); Ian Maguire (captain, St Finbarr’s), Cillian O’Hanlon (Kilshannig); Tom Clancy (Fermoy), Sean White (Clonakilty), Mattie Taylor (Mallow); Damien Gore (Kilmacabea), Ruairi Deane (Bantry Blues), Brian Hurley (Castlehaven).

Subs: Chris Kelly (Eire Óg), Peter Murphy (Bandon), Aidan Browne (Newmarket), Liam O’Donovan (Clonakilty), Tadhg Corkery (Cill na Martra), James Fitzpatrick (Carbery Rangers), Ronan O’Toole (Eire Óg), Eoghan McSweeney (Knocknagree), Mark Collins (Castlehaven), Peter Kelleher (Kimichael), Chris Óg Jones (Iveleary).
