THE West Cork Schoolboys League has confirmed the squad that will represent the region at the 2018 New Balance SFAI Kennedy Cup.

Next June, a 20-player West Cork squad will join 31 other schoolboys leagues from around the country to participate in the prestigious week-long tournament at the University of Limerick.

Johnny Lawless (Ardfield) and Lorne Edmeade (Clonakilty AFC) will be in charge of the WCSL as they begin their campaign with a tough opening group and games against South Dublin, Kildare and Limerick County.

West Cork begins their tournament with a tricky assignment against South Dublin on Monday, June 11th. The following day, a double-header sees the WCSL take on Kildare in the early afternoon before rounding off their opening phase with a match against Limerick County.

The region’s final Kennedy Cup squad was announced last week with players from the Ardfield, Bantry Bay Rovers, Bunratty United, Drinagh Rangers, Dunmanway Town, Leeside, Lyre Rovers, Riverside Athletic and Skibbereen clubs making up the confirmed panel.

Ardfield have three representatives, Tomás Ó Donabháin, John O’Donovan and Conor Twomey. The latter was part of last year’s Kennedy Cup panel and has found then net six times this season. The talented Ó Donabháin and O’Donovan have played significant roles in helping the Inchydoney club reach this year’s SuperValu U14 Cup final. John O’Donovan is a player expected to make an impact at the University of Limerick and is Ardfield’s current top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions.

Drinagh Rangers and Riverside Athletic will each have two players taking part in this summer’s Kennedy Cup. Ciarán O’Regan and Owen Tobin have played at a consistently high level for Canon Crowley Park side, Drinagh, with Tobin topping Drinagh’s goal-scoring charts on six goals.

Olan Corcoran and William Hennigan are rewarded for impressive seasons in Riverside Ahteltic’s colours with deserved Kennedy Cup call-ups. Athletic are leading the way atop the SuperValu U14 Division 1 standings thanks in no small part to Corcoran and Hennigan’s goal-scoring abilities. The former has scored seven times and Hennigan is on ten goals heading towards the business end of the domestic campaign.

Aaron Mannix is enjoying another terrific season for Dunmanway Town and continuing his goalkeeping development with regular visits to the FAI headquarters in Abbottstown. Mannix is a highly regarded net-minder capable of furthering his reputation with a decent showing at this year’s prestigious SFAI tournament.

The 2018 West Cork Schoolboys League New Balance Kennedy Cup squad includes: Aaron Mannix (Dunmanway Town), Oisin O’Sullivan (Lyre Rovers), Joseph Bailey (Lyre Rovers), Ciarán O’Regan (Drinagh Rangers), Dan Twomey (Lyre Rovers), Sam Pickering (Leeside), John O’Donovan (Ardfield), Olan Corcoran (Riverside Athletic), Paddy Cronin (Bantry Bay Rovers), Jamie O’Driscoll (Skibbereen), Tomás Ó Donabháin (Ardfield), Owen Tobin (Drinagh Rangers), Michael O’Driscoll (Bunratty United), Lorcan O’Brien (Bunratty United), William Hennigan (Riverside Athletic), Finian Hogan (Bunratty United), Darragh O’Reilly (Bunratty United), Conor Twomey (Ardfield), Eoghan O’Sullivan (Bantry Bay Rovers) and Cian Jacob (Lyre Rovers).
