A body, believed to be that of missing fisherman Kodie Healy, has been located by a team of civilian divers.

The recovery operation took place this afternoon in Dunmanus Bay.

The young local fisherman was reported missing last Wednesday night after he failed to return home from a fishing trip.

A massive search operation has been underway since, involving the Coast Guard, RNLI, the gardaí and the navy, as well as a strong group of local people who were co-ordinated by the emergency services.

There was also a strong show of support from local fishermen who used their trawlers in the extensive search of Dunmanus Bay and the wider Mizen area since last Thursday.

A body was located on Sunday afternoon near Carbery Island in the middle of the bay, part of the area which the search had been concentrating on in recent days.

It is believed to have been located by a team of divers who had come to aid in the search, from the Blackwater area, who were then assisted in the recovery operation by naval divers.
