BANDON’S North Main Street is set to remain closed until September 27th after Irish Water confirmed this week that they have applied to Cork County Council for an extension to the road closure.

Cork County Council is seeking the closure of street from Sunday August 25th to Friday September 27th to facilitate pipeline, road and footpath construction as part of the town’s €14m main drainage scheme, which is being undertaken by Ward & Burke on behalf of Irish Water.

It is expected that the extended closure could put added pressure on traffic coming in and out of the town, especially with schools set to return at the end of this month.

An Irish Water spokesperson said that schools and transport providers for the schools will be notified as soon as possible.

‘Works will be carried out in phases in order to reduce impact to businesses and residents. Local access will be maintained at all times. Contractors Ward & Burke Construction are in communication with the local area County Council Office at all times for the co-ordination and planning of all roadworks.’

‘We would like to thank the local community for their patience and support as we carry out these essential works to improve water supply to customers and help protect the local environment,’ they added.

Objections to this temporary street closure should be made in writing, quoting 140-19 to the Director of Services, Road & Transportation, Cork County Council, The Courthouse, Skibbereen, not later than Thursday August 8th.
