Work is well underway on Clonakilty's Primary Care Centre on the town's bypass.

WORK is well underway on Clonakilty’s Primary Care Centre on the town’s bypass.

The multi-floored building is being developed in partnership with the HSE, whereby a developer has provided the site.

Glazing is currently being installed and the centre is set for completion by 2020.

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Services, which will be included in the centre, will include services already in the area but which will now benefit from being co-located with the general practitioners.

Services to be located here include: public health nursing, physiotherapy, speech & language therapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, dietetic service, mental health service and dental service.

There will also be bookable rooms where visiting HSE services eg from emergency hospitals, can access space on a planned arrangement. In addition to GPs and support staff, the HSE environmental health office have will also have accommodation in the building.

More than 10 new primary care centres are expected to be opened in Cork within the next two years with one recently opening in Carrigaline.
