EDITOR-in-chief of Glamour magazine, Samantha Barry, who has strong West Cork connections, made her Met Ball debut this week in a dramatic gold lamé trouser suit.

Described as the ‘Olympics of fashion’, the New York event comes with a specific dress theme and this year it was ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion.’

Samantha is from Ballincollig and her mother Mairead (Mullins) is from Bere Island and now lives in Bantry, while her uncle John still lives on the island.

The UCC graduate got the fashion thumbs-up in a custom-made, structured gold suit with exaggerated shoulders and flared trousers by Jason Rembert.

Samantha posted footage on Instagram of her hair and make-up preparations and afterwards commented: ‘The most terrifying and exciting red carpet I’ve ever done’ attracting nearly 3,000 likes.

Glamour is one of the biggest fashion and beauty media brands in the world, and since she took the helm in January, Samantha took the radical decision to bring it digital with former Vogue editor Anna Wintour describing her as ‘fearless.’

Among her close circle of friends are Amal and George Clooney.
