Flooding in West Cork as heavy rain continues throughout day

WITH the current spell of heavy rain set to continue throughout the day, there are fears of further flooding in West Cork.

WITH the current spell of heavy rain set to continue throughout the day, there are fears of further flooding in West Cork.

CORK County Council has said the following roads near Ballyvourney and Dunmanway and are now impassable: The R-587-167 at Demesne, Derreens, Derrylahan and Ardcahan; The R-585-223 at Inchincurka, Kilnadur, Aultaghreagh, Shanlaragh and Curradrinagh;  the R-587-152 at Ardcahan and Aultagh; the R-579-613 at Carrigrohanebeg, Coolatanavally and Coolflugh. 

The following roads are now PASSABLE:

The R-585-223 at Inchincurka, Kilnadur, Aultaghreagh, Shanlaragh and Curradrinagh.

The R-637-217 at Inchafune, Edencurra and Lisbealad East.

However, the main Crookstown to Dunmanway road is now completely blocked a few miles north of Dunmanway, as our photograph from a reader, taken at 4pm, shows:

The current Orange rainfall warning, issue by Met Éireann this weekend, has been in force since Saturday evening, and will continue up until 6pm today.

There is already extensive flooding around areas in the region, including outside Skibbereen and surface water lies on the main N71 at Rosscarbery, as our photographs and videos below show.
