It was confirmed by Cork County Council today that contractors will be on site on Oliver Plunkett St in Bandon next week to demolish the buildings which collapsed in December.

AT the Western Committee meeting of Cork County Council in Clonakilty today, it was confirmed by the Council that contractors will be on site on Oliver Plunkett St in Bandon next week.

This follows on from the Council being granted a court order recently to allow them to demolish the buildings which collapsed on the street before Christmas.

The street has been closed since the second week of December as a result and local traders are seeking an urgent re-opening of the area to restore footfall.

The work is expected to take approximately two weeks, subject to conditions.

Local Cllr Gillian Coughlan said after the meeting that she welcomed this development and looked forward to the re-opening of the street.
