KINSALE has gone to pot in the hazy summer sunshine as gardaí discovered a cannabis plant growing in a flower bed outside the gourmet town’s popular tourist office.

The plant was growing in a flowerbed on Pier Road  when it was spotted by eagle-eyed gardaí who promptly removed it for analysis.

Speaking to The Southern Star, Supt Brendan Fogarty of Bandon Garda Station said ‘it was a strange one’ alright.

‘It was the gardaí who spotted the plant in the flowerbed and an investigation is ongoing to see how it came to be there in the first place and if someone planted it there,’ said Supt Fogarty.

The discovery of the cannabis plant drew some humorous comments on social media and particularly on the Kinsale Notice Board on Facebook after some people said they witnessed the gardaí removing the plant.

One person said she was ‘completely shocked’ that cannabis was growing in this flower bed in the middle of Kinsale, while another wondered if other ‘pots’ were being checked all over town.
