Cork County Council has issued an advisory notice at Barleycove Beach due to an increase in bacteria levels taken from a sample of water yesterday.

CORK County Council has placed an advisory notice on advice from the HSE at Barleycove Beach after samples taken from bathing water yesterday showed elevated levels of E.coli.

'Bathers are advised not to swim at this bathing water due to an increase in the levels of bacteria found in a bathing water sample taken on Monday June 11th,' said a council spokesperson.

'The likely cause of contamination may be faecal from an unknown origin. The water will be re-sampled today and the results will be available  on Thursday.'
