A PSYCHOTHERPAIST who runs journaling groups between Skibbereen and Bantry has launched her first book which she says will help people be more in charge of their lives.

Gill Riordan’s book ‘Journaling and the Journey within’ is published under the Somerville Press imprint based in Bantry.

Gill who has practised as a psychotherapist for 35 years said the  journaling groups are an opportunity to learn, grow and discover.

They are also about learning to understand that when we get upset, the cause is within – the result of our thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, interpretations.

She said: ‘Other people are not the cause of our upset, they are the trigger. Even though their behaviour may be inappropriate, they are the trigger, not the cause. It takes time to change our thinking and old, faulty thought patterns and when you have the opportunity to learn in groups it makes it easier and more pleasant.

‘I have written the book, which is short – so that people will read it, study it and follow the exercises. This work, if you stick with it, will help you to understand why you suffer and how to change your experience and be more in charge of yourself and your life. It has some new ideas to expand your thinking.’

Gill, who is originally from Dublin,  lives with her husband and daughter in Glandore.
