Sterling buyers are back in large numbers in West Cork after the initial shock impact of Brexit.

STERLING buyers are back in large numbers in West Cork after the initial shock impact of Brexit.

That’s according to auctioneer Ray O’Neill of Sherry FitzGerald O’Neill who was speaking after their sale this week of a property, just shy of €1m, to UK based buyers.

Eden House, at the Burren, mid-way between Kinsale and Clonakilty, was bought for close to its asking price of €945,000. It’s believed it will be used as a family home by its purchasers, one of whom is understood to be originally from Kildare.

Built on the site of the former Burren NS, the contemporary property was built in 2014 to an extremely high end finish with floor to ceiling windows to maximise sea views, an enormous balcony and other luxuries such as a sunken bath.

Ray said: ‘This and other sales show that the market has levelled off and recovered after the initial impact of Brexit. Hopefully this will continue in these uncertain times.’

They had another recent significant sale to UK based buyers, in the Red House in Castletownshend which went for €900,000.
