Kilbrittain Ploughing Association held its 36th annual ploughing match on Sunday last, February 3rd, at Baltinakin, Kilbrittain.

KILBRITTAIN Ploughing Association held its 36th annual ploughing match on Sunday last, February 3rd, at Baltinakin, Kilbrittain on the lands of Bertie and Julie O’Mahony.

The high, elevated site, which has panoramic views over Kilbrittain village and the estuary at Harbour View, has rich loam soil which ploughed up completely stone-free in all 43 plots.

The event was well attended on the day in spite of the very low temperatures and the rain that had been forecast held off until after the ploughing was completed.

The judges were Michael O’Halloran, Tom Healy, Tommy McCarthy and Derek O’Driscoll from Kerry had a challenging task due to the closeness of some of the competitors in many of the classes. The steward was Willie Stokes.

The committee made a presentation on the night of the prizegiving to the landowners Bertie and Julie O’Mahony at the Kilbrittain Inn in appreciation of making the land available for the match.
