Cheese from the Carbery Group won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the 2017 British Cheese Awards.

CHEESE from the Carbery Group won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the 2017 British Cheese Awards earlier this month, plus more than 20 major awards at the International Cheese Awards in the UK more recently.

Carbery's Dubliner original red and reduced fat white mature cheddar both won gold; Carbery's reduced fat white extra mature cheddar won silver; and the company's mature white cheddar, red leicester and white reduced fat cheeses won bronze awards in their relevant classes in the British cheese awards at the start of the month.

But at the International Cheese Awards – an event that attracts more than 6,000 entries – the highlight for Carbery Group was winning the best mature cheddar award, and a second trophy for its chilli and black pepper cheddar, as well as silver for its recently launched Carbery cracker cheddar.

The medals haul has been described as ‘a great win' for the company, which produces almost 25% of Ireland's annual cheese output and is the largest single cheese-producing facility in Ireland.

There were over 800 entries in this year's competition and several company representatives travelled to the UK.

Dermot Curtin, Carbery's cheese production manager said: ‘It is fantastic to get recognition for the quality of our cheeses at international level.'

He said the awards are a great tribute to their quality milk suppliers and the team at Carbery.
