AN investment of nearly half a million euro has been made at Healy’s SuperValu in Dunmanway including new refrigeration units which is already making the shopping experience all the more pleasurable for their loyal customers.

Speaking to The Southern Star, Andrew Healy, who has been running the supermarket with his wife Martina for the last 15 years, said that the revamp was tough going at the time, but their customers stuck by them.

‘We began the revamp back in October and finished the week before Christmas, so it was a pretty busy period for us. The shop now is easier to navigate from a customer point of view and the feedback has been very positive from them,’ said Andrew.

‘With the help of the Musgrave group, led by Brian Russell of the instore design team and Tom Higgins, SuperValu retail regional manager, we are delighted with the finished results,’ he said.

One striking feature at the entrance is the new bakery brick wall that features the Healy’s Kitchen range of breads that are baked from scratch in-store. Also, new refrigerations units installed at a cost of €200,000 are more environmentally friendly to operate and efficient to run. New flooring, too, and LED lighting has complimented the overall refurbishment and has opened up the store.

The addition of the popular Frank & Honest coffee station, along with the Moo’d ice-cream unit, means customers have more choice in the supermarket.

‘The refurbishment has allowed us to show off the shop with these dedicated units and our extended off-licence has opened up this space and we have invested in new beer fridges, as well as in new tills.’

Andrew credits the success of the refurbishment also to their dedicated 60 staff members.

‘We have a great team of staff here and during the revamp the effort of them all was huge and it made the transition all the easier. Both Martina and myself would like to commend them for their dedication to the store,’ added Andrew.

Supporting local producers is also important for Healy’s SuperValu and they are keen to stock as much local food produce as possible, including vegetables from Peter Ross in Drimoleague and potatoes from local supplier Michael Whelton.

The official re-launch of the supermarket will take place on March 2nd and will be aiming at local families, with plenty of food tastings of the new produce, as well as face painting for the children.
