Former Spurs and West Ham manager spent few days in West Cork earlier this week

THERE was a reason why Harry Redknapp was spotted around West Cork earlier this week – he’s taking part in a new mini-series, The Toughest Rivalry, which involves Castlehaven GAA Club.

The former Spurs, Southampton, West Ham and QPR manager spent a few days with Castlehaven as filming began on the new series by AIB, which will be broadcast the summer.

While Redknapp takes charges of Castlehaven, former Italian footballer, manager and World Soccer Footballer of the Year in 1995, Gianluca Vialli will manage Erin’s Isle GAA in Finglas – and the two clubs will meet later this summer in a rematch of their infamous 1998 All-Ireland club semi-final that left both teams with unfinished business.

Erin’s Isle won that day, 2-12 to 0-17, after two late goals, including one that was contentious.

Redknapp said: ‘I am thrilled to dive into the world of GAA. I took a trip out to London GAA training last week before arriving in Castlehaven to see what it is all about.

‘Having been involved in professional football for my whole life, I am really looking forward to working with AIB to get a real understanding of this sport and the central role it plays in Irish life not to mention getting one over on Vialli in the re-match.’
