Kilbane will be big hit at gala awards

Former Republic of Ireland soccer international Kevin Kilbane has been confirmed as the guest speaker for the 20th annual Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star Awards on Saturday, January 20th.

FORMER Republic of Ireland soccer international Kevin Kilbane has been confirmed as the guest speaker for the 20th annual Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star Awards on Saturday, January 20th.

Kilbane played 110 times for Ireland and also featured in the 2002 World Cup.

In his club career Kilbane lined out for Everton, West Bromich Albion, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic among others, and since he hung up his boots he has enjoyed a career as an analyst, appearing on BBC’s Match of the Day as well as a regular on Newstalk’s award-winning sports show, Off The Ball. At this month’s gala Celtic Ross West Cork Sports Star Awards, Kilbane will entertain the crowd with stories from his career and an insight into what it takes to reach the top of his profession.

The 2017 monthly winners in contention for the overall West Cork Sports Star of the Year Award are Fineen Wycherley (rugby), Jamie Wall (GAA), Noel Fehily (horseracing), Tom Ferguson (rugby), Denise Walsh (rowing), Mark O’Donovan and Shane O’Driscoll (rowing), Mike Keohane (athletics), Luke Meade (hurling), Orla Cronin (camogie), Keith Cronin (motorsport), Clive Sweetnam (GAA), Paul O’Donovan (rowing), Fionn Lyden (sailing) and Emma Spillane (GAA).
