BANDON athlete Laura Nicholson raced to gold and glory in record time at the Celtic International Track and Field Championships in Dublin on Saturday week last.

The talented Bandon AC athlete (16) won gold in the girls' U18 1500m steeplechase in Morton Stadium, coming home in her fastest ever time of 5:00.98, a huge 11 seconds clear of Welsh runner Lucy Davies in second and Scotland's Sarah Tait in third.

This great win helped Ireland win the overall title at the Celtic Games.

It's a fantastic end to the track season for Nicholson who has been in great form in recent times, winning the All-Ireland U18 2000m steeplechase and All-Ireland U18 1500m titles.

She'll now take a short break before returning to training for the cross-country season with the possibility of qualifying for the Irish junior team for the European Cross-Country Championships in December; the team is picked from the national cross-country championships at the end of November.
