WHILE Castlehaven suffered a one-point defeat to Ballincollig in their Rochestown Park Hotel Division 1FL clash at Moneyvollahane on Sunday, there was at least the consolation of Brian Hurley’s return to action.

The attacker had been absent since the summer having suffered a hamstring injury in a practice match with Cork, but he came on for the final 20 minutes and kicked two points, one from play and the other a 45.

Mark Collins scored five points for the Haven, who led by 0-12 to 0-10 with ten minutes left after the sides had been tied at half-time. However, Ballincollig – who eliminated the Haven from last year’s championship – scored the final three points, with Cian Dorgan impressing.

Ballincollig share the lead with St Finbarr’s, who beat Mallow by 0-15 to 1-9, Cork U21 star Stephen Sherlock scoring ten points, having got 1-7 in a challenge match against Waterford that morning. Pa Herlihy got the Mallow goal.

Clonakilty went down by 1-12 to 1-9 against Nemo Rangers, who finished strongly, while goals were the difference as O’Donovan Rossa beat Valley Rovers by 2-9 to 0-14 at Brinny.

Conor McCarthy netted from the penalty spot with Colin Crowley getting the other goal for Skibbereen. Fiachra Lynch was the primary scoring threat for Valleys, who are managed by former Rossa player Barry Casey.

Newcestown weren’t in action in Division 2, while in Division 3 Ruairí Deane was to the fore as Bantry Blues took joint-ownership with Fermoy thanks to a 1-12 to 1-3 win over Rockchapel.

On Monday night, Dohenys opened with a win, Mark Buckley scoring eight points as they triumphed by 0-15 to 2-7 away to St Vincent’s.

Bandon’s momentum continues, Darren Crowley scoring from a penalty as they beat Castletownbere by 1-15 to 0-12 to make it two wins from two.

In Division 5, Gabriel Rangers, Clonakilty and Adrigole all suffered defeat, going down against Millstreet, Grenagh and St Finbarr’s respectively.
