INJURED Cork forward Brian Hurley is targetting a return to football in early 2017.

The Castlehaven clubman will undergo surgery on Sunday morning to repair the serious hamstring injury he suffered during inter-county training early last month.

The 24-year-old is facing six months on the sideline after the season-ending injury saw him partially tear his hamstring from the bone during a training session.

Hurley will have to wear a brace/cast for the next six weeks.

His absence is a big blow to both Cork and Castlehaven, with the Rebels in All-Ireland SFC Round 4B action against Donegal on Saturday while Haven take on Ilen Rovers in Round 4 of the Cork SFC.
