After winning four national titles with Skibbereen Rowing Club last weekend, international rower Shane O’Driscoll, from Kilkilleen, talks coffee machines, alarm clocks and Wheatus hits...

How would your best friend describe you? Grounded, except when I’m celebrating after a race.

Who was your sporting hero when you were 10 years old? Players from the Ilen Rovers team.

Where would you recommend for a weekend away? Sherkin Island.

If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring? A boat and oars to get off the island and my favourite red hat to keep things classy.

If you could go back in time, where would you go and why? I’d take it back to the start of the junior men’s eight in 2010, I’d get the guys to pull harder from the first stroke and not let Bann (Rowing Club from Coleraine) get too far ahead.

What song best describes you? Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus – it was big in the early noughties ....

What is your least favourite word? I’m not sure I have a least favourite word but, if this counts, my least favourite sound is my alarm clock in the morning.

What’s your favourite knock-knock joke? It’s a classic. Knock knock. Who’s there? Broken pencil. Broken pencil who? Never mind, it’s pointless.

What’s the world’s greatest invention? Coffee machines.

If you know you’d die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day? Minihanes Bar in Lisheen.

A penguin walks into the room wearing a sombrero, why is he wearing it and what does he say? He’s a penguin with attitude, hence why he’s wearing a sombrero, and he asks, as penguins with an attitude would, ‘what’s up punk?’
