CLONAKILTY’S third annual Street Carnival takes place on Saturday June 16th with huge crowds set to throng the town for what has become a major social highlight of the summer calendar.

This year’s theme is ‘Social Together’ in celebration of the fact that locals and visitors alike are gathering together for a special day which starts at 11am and runs until 8.30pm, with the town fully pedestrianised from 9am to 9pm.

This year’s platinum sponsor is Irish Yogurts, a family-run business, founded in Clonakilty in 1994 by Diarmuid O’Sullivan.

A highlight of the day will be the dinner party on the street which last year saw more than 2,000 people served the best of Clonakilty fare from the town’s top restaurants at one of longest dinner parties in Ireland.

This year service commences at 3pm providing €15 adult meals and €7 children’s meals. Up to 2,500 meal tickets are available to purchase locally, or on www.clonakilty.ie.

A children’s meal area has been added on Astna Square this year, where ‘Clonakiddy’ meals will be available, as well as free pottery classes for the smallies.

The day will also feature street performers, live music, a kids’ zone with supervised bouncy castles, face painting, magicians, bubbles and popcorn machines (Ashe Street), as well as giant games, ping pong, crazy golf and much more.

Diarmuid O’Sullivan of Irish Yogurts said: ‘We are delighted to support the Clonakilty Street Carnival as platinum sponsor. The carnival is a huge success and provides a platform to serve up the best of Clonakilty food. We are greatly looking forward to the third annual event.’

Kevin O’Regan, Clonakilty Carnival Committee, added: ‘Clonakilty Street Carnival 2018 is set to once again bring colour, fun and excellent food to visitors on the day. This is a community effort driven by commitment, enthusiasm and great energy. Having been awarded the Best Town in Europe award last year, we plan to keep proving ourselves as a fantastic destination.’
