And everywhere Liz went ... Betty was sure to go!

A TWO-week-old lamb that was rescued in a starving state, when she was discovered in a ditch, is now living a pampered life in Bantry. 

Toby Campbell, who discovered her while walking in Gougane Barra, said he believed she wouldn’t have survived if he hadn’t brought her to his home in Bantry.

Back in Bantry, his wife Liz, and their children, Joshua and Hannah, were happy to hand-feed the famished creature.

‘She lived in the kitchen for about a week until she grew stronger,’ said Liz.

Liz even admitted that she got so tired of mopping up ‘spills’ from their four legged friend that she put a nappy on the lamb.

And they became so attached to her that they named her Betty in memory of Liz’s recently deceased mother. 

‘Now she lives outside and sleeps in our utility room,’ said Liz, who described the lamb as being ‘very playful after a wobbly start.’ 

In answer to the question – is it like the nursery rhyme that ‘everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go’ – Liz confirmed that Betty does indeed follow them around.

Betty has great company, too, in Freddy, a rescue dog. She playfully head-butts him until she gets the attention she craves and she even goes for walks through the fields with Toby. 

Liz confirmed: ‘We will keep her until she is weaned and then we’ll find a home for her with other sheep.’
