Shelly's Gala will take place in the Celtic Ross Hotel this Sunday from 2pm to 7pm.

AFTER  weeks of fundraising for Marymount Hospice the team behind ‘Shelly’s Drive for Marymount’ will be holding ‘Shelly’s Gala’ on Sunday May 13th at the Celtic Ross Hotel from 2pm to 7pm.

A former nurse, Shelly Hayes (38) from Burgatia in Rosscarbery, who was married to Derry  O’Donovan,  lost her battle against melanoma cancer in February and her family and friends have been very active since then fulfilling her dying wish to raise fund for Marymount Hospice.

‘It’s going to be a great family fun day and there will be plenty of entertainment with local musicians. We will be playing tribute to Shelly too as well as holding a live auction with items liked a signed 2018 Irish Rugby Grand Slam winning jersey,’ said Shelly’s sister Rachel Hayes.

‘We will also be drawing the winners of both the playhouse and the heifer raffles and for the children we will have a magic show, face painting and a DJ.’

Rachel said the support from both people in the community and beyond has been incredible and they are hopeful of reaching their target of between €25,000 to €30,000.

‘Only last weekend over €4,000 was raised after we held a car wash fundraiser in the home of John & Sheila O’Regan and 192 cars were washed which was an incredible achievement and we want to thank all the volunteers who helped out in washing all those cars. We also want to thank all those who held other fundraising events too.’

The fundraising isn’t over yet as a Golf Classic will take place at Skibbereen Golf Club on Saturday May 26th with a three ball scramble and the cost per team is €120. See ‘Shelly’s Drive for Marymount’ on Facebook for more updates.
