Crosshaven's Royal Cork Yacht Club has been named the Yacht Harbour Association's Marina of the Year at the fifth London Boat Show.

CROSSHAVEN’S Royal Cork Yacht Club has been named the Yacht Harbour Association’s Marina of the Year at the fifth London Boat Show.

It beat off stiff competition, winning out over 160 Gold Anchor marinas from across the globe.

Speaking at the awards, RCYC general manager Gavin Deane said: ‘We are delighted to receive such a significant award. Having been runners-up in the category last year, it spurred us on to improve our standards.’

Simon Haigh, chairman of the Yacht Harbour Association, congratulated all the participants. ‘These awards have built huge momentum. Customers are voting for their marina and recognising the excellence of provided facilities, and the level of service which they receive.’

Jon White, general manager of the association, summed up the awards, saying: ‘The competition for these coveted awards was fierce. The winners, runners up, and all the marinas voted for in this competition, deserve applause.’ Mr Deane said that Crosshaven’s yacht club will host the Volvo Cork Week from July 16th to 21st, welcoming visiting yachts from all over the world as a gateway to the Cool Route of Irish sailing. ‘We are particularly pleased with this recognition from end users of our facilities,’ he added.
