Gardaí issue security reminder to farmers and tradesmen

LOCAL gardaí are currently investigating a number of crimes in West Cork, and are seeking the public’s assistance in solving them.

On January 12th (Friday), between the hours of 12.30am and 1am, an alarm was activated at a childcare facility in Coachford.

Gardaí believe that the premises was entered via a window and the office was ransacked and a small amount of money was taken.

On the same date, at approximately 6.25am,  a commercial garage at New Tipperary, Donoughmore, was entered when a padlock on an entrance was broken. Two alloy wheels and a red Honda generator were taken, along with a red Honda power washer, all valued at €720 approx.

On January 11th, at nearby Berrings, two pressure washers were taken from farm sheds at Lisladeen, valued at €1500. They were taken between the hours of 7pm on January 11th and 9.30am on January 12th, and gardaí said it was a reminder to farmers to keep their properties secure at all times, and to use CCTV and alarms, where possible.

On January 10th, between midday and 1.15pm, a workman who was working in his shed in Ballyvourney, returned to lock his vehicle to find that a Mikita power tool – a blue chop saw – had been taken, valued at €450. 

A silver saloon car, with 07 L (Limerick) plates, had been seen acting suspiciously in the area prior to the crime. If anybody saw anything suspicious, or noticed the vehicle, gardaí in Macroom are seeking more information.

‘All tradespeople should ensure that their vehicles are locked at all times, as this is not the first such incident of items being taken from unlocked vehicles,’ a garda spokesperson said.
