A West Cork school suffered roof damage when Storm Fionn ripped through Schull on Tuesday afternoon.

ALTHOUGH Storm Fionn ripped through West Cork on Tuesday night, there were no reports of extensive damage.

However, the windows on the roof of the canteen hall at Schull Community College were blown outwards during the gale force conditions in the afternoon (pictured, right).

Following a strong gust of wind, the panes of glass were pushed outwards and landed on the roof.

Once this was discovered, the canteen hall was secured until the school was able to get the windows boarded up where the panes of glass had dislodged.

No students or staff were present at the time.

At one point, a gust of 89knts (164kph) was recorded at the Fastnet Lighthouse, at 1pm in the day.
