A TIDAL surge coinciding with high tides is expected to occur tomorrow evening, at 6pm approximately. This has the potential to cause tidal flooding across low lying areas in Bantry and Clonakilty.

Cork County Council will have sandbags available at Council depots from tomorrow morning. Met Éireann has issued an Orange Weather Warning. West to Southwest winds veering Northwest will reach mean speeds 65-80 km/h with gusts 110-130 km/h in coastal parts of Munster and coastal parts of Wexford with the risk of coastal flooding.

This warning is valid from 00:01 Saturday 21-October-2017 until 12:00 Saturday 21-October-2017.   In light of the imminent wind warning, Cork County Council asks members of the public to avoid coastal areas, exercise extreme caution in relation to trees/structures that may have been affected by storm Ophelia. We also request landowners to check trees on roadside boundaries which may have been affected by storm Ophelia and could pose a risk.

Road users are urged to be aware overhanging tree limbs, surface water, remaining debris etc while drains and gullies continue to be cleared by Council crews.

Council crews are continuing to clear the R602 Bandon which is passable but delays may occur. Clearing of local roads continues; however some require the ESB to initially deal with cables and may not reopen for a few days. Tankers and static tanks are available at a number of locations throughout the county which continue to be affected by water supply interruptions.

Full up to date details of tanker locations can be found on www.water.ie. Customers without water should contact Irish Water on 1850278278 or consult the website for the most up to date information. Communication with some Council offices remains affected.

Should members of the public have difficulty contacting any council office, please contact our incident line on 021 4800048.

Cork County Council will continue to post further updates on Cork County Council's twitter page @CorkCoCo and website at www.CorkCoCo.ie. Matters are being monitored and responded to on an ongoing basis and regular updates will follow.
