Heavy winds and rain are expected this Saturday as an Orange weather alert has been issued by Met Eireann.

MET Eireann has elevated their previous YELLOW weather alert to an ORANGE alert for this Saturday.

Dangerous winds are expected in Cork and Kerry with west to southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speeds of 65-80 km/h with gusts of 110-130 km/h in coastal parts of Munster.

With continious rain expected for this afternoon drivers are being reminded that some road surfaces are prone to spot flooding and they are being asked to drive with caution. Reports are coming in of several routes already flooded including Enniskeane to Clonakilty Rd and the Timoleague to Courtmacsherry Road. Drivers can expect delays and diversions in these areas.

There are also reports of trees falling in some areas as a result of Storm Ophelia on Monday. Diversions are in place on the N71  through the village of Rosscarbery after trees fell near the creamery at around lunchtime and there are reports of heavy surface water approaching the turn off from the Skibbereen side.
