STUDENTS at Kinsale Community School celebrated their Junior Cert results on Wednesday and principal Fergal McCarthy told The Southern Star that they had fantastic results overall.

‘Of the Top 10 students who got their results, they had 65 As, 34 Bs and one C, and these results were exemplary,’ said Fergal. ‘Overall the students did really well and these results will now give them the opportunity to explore their subject choices that they will make at the end of Transition Year.’

‘These results are very affirming for the students after going through the rigours of their first State exams. Also, the new English paper also gave them a chance to develop skills that weren’t measured in the previous module.’

Principal Helen Cadogan at St Brogan’s College in Bandon said the results of their students were fantastic.

‘Our students did really well and we are very proud of them all. Everyone reached their potential and in one case one student received nine As, which was a fantastic achievement,’ said Helen.

‘All our Junior Cert 2017 students are very happy here this morning,’ Dr Kevin Healy, principal at Coláiste Pobail Bheanntraí in Bantry told The Southern Star.

‘While we don’t like to focus on any one student or the results I know that for the pupils here this morning that got their exam results, they are happy and looking forward to the celebration.’

Dr Healy also said that the new English course and marking system has proved positive. ‘This is the first year and the first subject in the new marking system. There are four more subjects coming online next year and this will see a more uniformed approach in regards to the marking system.’

‘Students at Scoil Phobail Bhéara received results today at Junior Cycle that were significantly above the national average in all areas,’ principal of the Beara school, Mary O’Sullivan said. ‘Their success represents their hard work and the work of their teachers with support from family and friends.

‘We wish all our students every success in moving forward either with Transition Year, who are currently on a sailing week or with 5th year who have now settled into the rhythm of senior cycle, and we know that they will achieve highly in the future both at school and in lifelong learning.’

In Rosscarbery, principal Bart Kerrisk was delighted with the results at Mount St Michael.

‘We had excellent results all round,’ Mr Kerrisk said. While we had students achieving a lot of A, B and C grades, with one student getting 10 As, we are delighted that all our students have reached their potential and that’s what this school is all about.’

‘Our students achieved huge success in Maths and with the new English course and marking system this year,’ Mr Kerrisk concluded.
