Pupils from Clogagh and Cloghroe National School are celebrating reaching the finals of the Our World Irish Aid Awards in Dublin Castle.

PUPILS from Clogagh and Cloghroe National School are celebrating reaching the finals of the Our World Irish Aid Awards in Dublin Castle.

Now in their 12th year, the Our World Irish Aid Awards help primary school pupils learn about the lives of children and their families in developing countries, and how Ireland and 192 other countries are working together to create a safer and fairer world and a better future for all through the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development

Throughout the year, Cloghagh student studied the United Nations Global Goals for the sustainability of the planet and peoples and entered the Department of Foreign Affairs sponsored competition. They put together a book of poetry based on these goals for the future of our planet with messages for a worldwide audience. 

Now with the help of their teachers they have put together anexhibition of their cross-curricular work in Clogagh Village Hall.

Nora Scannell had assisted with the rehearsals for the dramatic production and Sheila Hoare had worked with the children on some of their artistic creations.

Meanwhile, pupils from Cloghroe National School, were also at the event in Dublin Castle which saw 12 primary schools from across Ireland compete for the Best Newcomer, Teacher of the Year and overall Our World Irish Aid Awards.  This year the awards attracted entries from right across Ireland, all of which explored the interdependence between people and the natural world, and how the wellbeing of people, wildlife and the environment is interconnected.
