Three route options as Rebel Cycle Tour returns to Beara

THE Sport Ireland Rebel Tour of Cork, returns to West Cork and the Beara Peninsula for the fifth time on September 9th. 

The event will form the final leg of this year’s Sport Ireland Cycle Series with 160km, 85km and 55km options to choose from. 

Cork Sports Partnership have just announced Cork County Council and Bantry Bay Port Company as joint local sponsors of this year’s event which starts from Glengarriff, with a climb over the Caha Pass and into Kerry.

Last year over 2,500 riders took part in the Rebel Tour and participation is expected to grow even further this year.

Kristine Meenaghan, Coordinator of the Cork Sports Partnership made the sponsorship announcement in Bantry House where she said: ‘In addition to Sport Ireland, we are excited to welcome Cork County Council and Bantry Bay Port Company on board as joint local sponsors of this year’s event. 

‘Both Cork County Council and Bantry Bay Port Company have been long-time friends and supporters of the Rebel Tour and together we hope to deliver another world class leisure event on the Beara Peninsula.’

CEO of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey, added: ‘It is great to see the Sport Ireland Rebel Tour of Cork returning to the Beara Peninsula for the fifth year. 

‘West Cork provides a fantastic backdrop for this event and I am positive participants both new and returning will enjoy the spectacular nature of the routes and scenery on offer.’

Brendan Keating, CEO of Port of Cork said: ‘I would encourage everyone, no matter what your ability of cycling to take part in this year’s event and visit scenic West Cork at the same time.’

Ted Owens, CEO of Cork ETB and Chairperson of Cork Sports Partnership also welcomed the sponsorship.
