THE Doric Quartet from the UK, Pacifica Quartet from the USA, Pavel Haas Quartet from Czechoslovakia and Zaïde Quartet from France will join a host of soloists at this year’s West Cork Chamber Music Festival this summer.

The 22nd festival will run from Friday June 30th until July Saturday 8th and will feature British violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud, German violinist Viviane Hagner, and many more.

A year on from Ireland’s 1916 commemorations, Finland will be celebrating the centenary of its independence. The West Cork Chamber Music Festival marks this centenary with Finnish composer Kalevi Aho’s Quintet for Piano and Winds performed by Finland’s Christoffer Sundqvist and Joonas Ahonen and others.

Further centenaries are marked during the Festival: Violin Sonatas by Respighi, Debussy and Elgar, all composed in 1917.

Throughout the Festival, RTÉ lyric fm broadcaster Evelyn Grant will be talking to a selection of musicians in the popular morning talks which take place in the Bantry Bay hotel.
