Student on €9k cannabis charge

A West Cork student is due to appear before the next sitting of Kildare Circuit Court after being charged with possession of several thousands of euro worth of cannabis at The Curragh Races.

A WEST Cork student is due to appear before the next sitting of Kildare Circuit Court after being charged with possession of several thousands of euro worth of cannabis at The Curragh Races.

On the day of the annual Dubai Duty Free Races, Luke Reid (19), Rineen Natural Healing Centre, Union Hall, West Cork, was charged  with possession of cannabis for sale and supply, at The Curragh Races, on June 25th, 2016. 

The cannabis is believed to be worth about €9,000.

Reid has appeared a number of times at Naas District Court accompanied by his parents. 

Represented by defence solicitor Cairbre Finan, Luke Reid has been ordered to appear before the Kildare Circuit Court sitting in Naas, on the next sitting, on June 14th.

Addressing Reid, who was dressed in a sweatshirt and trousers, Judge David Waters told him that he is being sent forward for trial.

Reid was warned that if any alibi forms part of his defence, then he must give notice of this within 14 days. 

Judge Waters ordered that the West Cork teenager is released on his own bond of €150.
