A TEAM that included the West Cork salvage company, Atlantic Towage and Marine Ltd, lifted the wreckage of the Irish Coast Guard Rescue 116 helicopter on Sunday last.

Gerard O’Flynn, the search and rescue operations manager with the Irish Coast Guard, complimented Sean Harrington, owner of Atlantic Towage, and his crew for their professionalism and excellent seamanship throughout the operation. Mr O’Flynn also complimented Paddy O’Driscoll, who is a native of Schull, who is heading up the Marine Institute ROV – remotely operated vehicle – team.

Atlantic Towage was previously involved in other major recovery operations, such as the Rambler 100 off the Fastnet in 2011; the Astrid in Kinsale in 2013; and the moving of a decommissioned Boeing 767 by barge to Enniscrone in 2016 for David McGowan’s quirky glamping site in Sligo.
