DIRECTOR Juanita Wilson has agreed to return to Schull to screen her latest film Tomato Red, as part of this year’s Fastnet Film Festival.

Based on Winter’s Bone, the acclaimed novel by Daniel Woodress, the film stars Jake Weary, Julia Garner, Anna Friel and Nick Roux. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director.

The Dublin-born director and writer received an IFTA in 2009 and an Academy Award nomination in 2010.

The Fastnet Film Festival runs annually over the last weekend in May and this year will take place from Wednesday May 24th until Sunday May 28th.

Over five days at the end of May each year, FFF endeavours to screen every film submitted to competition, and the workshops provide high quality hands-on experiences for filmmakers, concentrating on the craft of film, with industry professionals and students sharing the same space. There is fun for all, with free family entertainment, from filmmaking, craft and drama workshops, to storytelling and kids cinema club, live music, parties, workshops and roundtable discussions with industry experts.

Distributed Cinema is Schull’s very own dedicated server to short films. Anyone with a smartphone, laptop or iPad can access past year’s submitted films, archived workshops and Q&As, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, in the village of Schull. During the festival, the server is used alongside HD media players, to screen shorts and features, in a number of smaller venues throughout the locality. From a bookshop, to an art gallery, numerous local pubs and restaurants and The Long Island Cinema, to the village hall, and the local hotel, the town with no cinema has more than 10 cinemas in May.

The venues’ names change to cinema names like The Adelphi, The Plaza, The Metropole, The Savoy and more.
