Baltimore RNLI lifeboat was launched in the early hours of this (Sunday) morning to go to the assistance of a fishing trawler, which had a crewman with chest injuries on board.
Just after midnight last night, the Baltimore RNLI lifeboat was launched to go to the assistance of a fishing trawler, which had a crewman with chest injuries on board.
Due to freshening weather conditions as sea, it was decided to transfer the casualty to the lifeboat in the shelter of Baltimore harbour, as due to low tide the trawler wouldn't be able to dock at the pier before 3am.
The lifeboat transferred two crew with a stretcher and first aid kit to the trawler, and once the casualty was assessed, he was secured on the stretcher ready for transfer to the lifeboat. Once all were safely on the lifeboat. It proceeded to Baltimore Lifeboat Station where a HSE ambulance was waiting to transfer him to hospital in Cork.
The crew on the lifeboat comprised Kieran Cotter, Pat Collins, Don O’Donovan, Paul Synott, Sean McCarthy, Brian McSweeney and Gerard Sheehy. Shore crew members assisting at the station were Gerald O’Brien, Ryan O’Mahony, Mícheál Cottrell, Jim Griffiths and Shane McSweeney.
