A VILLAGE once described as ‘an unspoiled Irish gem’ by a US travel writer will have the eyes of the world on it this Christmas Day.

Fr Gerard Galvin, the parish priest of Muintir Bháire, confirmed that the entire Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Kilcrohane will be streamed live on the internet. There will only be about 250 people seated in the church at 11.30am, but thousands more will be watching on YouTube.

Siobhán Burke of Sheep’s Head and Bantry Tourism Co-operatives said: ‘People who are away miss the rhythms and rituals of the seasons, as well as their families and friends, so it is fantastic to see modern technology being put to use to draw people closer. This will give people who know the area a chance to connect with the community in a meaningful way. And for strangers, it will be a wonderful opportunity to get a sense of how life is lived here. To tune in, go to YouTube and type in ‘Kilcrohane Church’.
