Following the spectacular success of last year’s ‘March Back in Time,’ Skibbereen Arts Festival opens this year with something ‘similar but completely different.’ On Friday, July 22n , the whole town will reverberate to the sounds of the 60s as we ‘go back in time’ to the summer of love. Shops and business’ will display posters and artefacts from the period with staff dressed in period costume.

Then, at 7pm, Bridge Street will be closed to traffic and there’ll be music, street theatre, puppet shows, children’s games, arts and crafts stalls, a flower power wall, graffitti artists creating a mural, food stalls, and then at 9pm a very special performance of some Beatles songs by a Skibbereen Arts Festival version of ‘Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’ put together especially for the occasion.

Once again, the idea is that the whole town will go back in time for the night with as many people as possible dressed up in ‘period costume’ – it doesn’t have to be 100% authentic, so why not have a look in your attic and see what you can come up with.

Event co-ordinator Declan McCarthy is asking for your help: ‘We would be thrilled if the whole town and surrounds will enter into the spirit of the evening by dressing up and coming along to the street party. We are looking for any other ideas that may help to make this another very special evening in Skibbereen.’

If you think you may have some items, ideas or expertise that may help, then the organisers would love to hear from you. You can email [email protected] or [email protected] For updates, see www.facebook.com/SkibbereenArts
