CLONAKILTY will be a bustling hub of brass and concert bands on Saturday July 2nd as the  South of Ireland Band Championships and Old-Time Fair take place in the town.

The recent Street Carnival has surely set the scene for a wonderful summer ahead. A record entry of 30 brass and concert bands from all over the country will arrive in town from early morning for the competitions at Clonakilty Community College and the community hall. There will be recitals all over town during the day. As always, the many attractions of the Old Time Fair will delight all and Clonakilty Library has also arranged a special children’s puppet show on Saturday.

This year’s adjudicators, Capt Brian Prendergast and Tom Davoren, will have a busy day and the competition organisers are quick to emphasise that without the wonderful cooperation of the local facility providers, the stewards and voluntary helpers, this logistical challenge would be even more difficult. They acknowledge the grant aid from Municipal District of West Cork, the Arts Office of Cork Co Council and the generosity of Clonakilty Chamber.
