THE historic Eldon Hotel in Skibbereen, which was bought last year by local family, the O’Donovans, has revealed its new logo in advance of its reopening in June.
The new brand identity has been developed by Southern Star Creative, the marketing services division of The Southern Star, as part of an overall branding and promotion brief.
Eileen O’Donovan said: ‘We’re delighted with our new logo. We wanted something that felt modern and contemporary whilst also subtly referencing the hotel’s past and the fact that we’re a family-owned and family-run business.’
The new owners say they intend to return the iconic hotel to its former glory and create a relaxed, alternative bar and restaurant venue for families, couples and local business people serving great locally-sourced food from an exciting new menu, developed by executive chef Matthew Brownie. The 12,500 sq ft hotel, which includes a reception, lounge bar, restaurant, 19 ensuite bedrooms (available later this year) and outdoor dining areas, is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment and upgrading ahead of the planned reopening. The Eldon Hotel is, of course, where many people believe patriot Michael Collins had his last meal on that fateful day when he was shot at Beal na Bláth in West Cork.
