Here's the scoop: new poop signs for Bandon

THE message is loud and clear to careless dog owners in Bandon:  ‘Scoop the poop’ after your pets. 

A set of new eye-catching colourful signs have been erected by Bandon Tidy Towns group to highlight the growing problems of dog litter in the town and to remind dog owners of their responsibilities, and so far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

‘Bandon Tidy Towns has received numerous complaints in recent times about the issue of irresponsible dog owners who do not clean up after their animals. Not only does this have serious health implications, but also it is unsightly and creates huge issues for people pushing buggies, children on bicycles, runners and walkers alike. It is hoped that our new signage will act as a reminder to dog owners to take responsibility for the mess their dogs are leaving in our public area,’ said Jonathan Kelly of Bandon Tidy Towns.

They have commissioned colourful new signage that is being installed at various locations throughout Bandon along popular dog walking routes in the town. ‘The reaction from the general public has been very positive, as this is an issue that seems to be impacting negatively on residents in all areas of the town. 

‘There is an on-the-spot fine for failing to clean up after your dog, and Cork County Council has been successfully implementing this recently,’ added Jonathan.

Bandon Tidy Towns’ painting initiative on North Main Street in conjunction with Bandon Co-op is also nearing completion and, according to members, it has made a remarkable improvement to the area and has brightened up this historic and previously neglected part of town.

‘Bandon Tidy Towns has a full programme of projects planned for 2016 and we hope to build on our success from last year when Bandon was awarded a bronze medal in the SuperValu National Tidy Towns competition.’

Bandon Tidy Towns is always looking for more volunteers and they meet every Tuesday evening at 7pm at the Allin Institute.
